Pre-Surgical Policy

We provide surgical appointments Monday through Friday.  Please make sure your dog or cat has no food after midnight the night before surgery.  There is no restriction on water intake.  Pets will be scheduled a drop off time the morning of the surgery.  For your convenience you may drop off your pet the night before at no additional charge.  Please allow 10-15 minutes when checking in your pet for surgery to reveiw the surgical procedure, discharge instructons and complete the surgical authorization paperwork with our techinicians. 

Pocket pets (rabbits, guinea pigs, etc.) should NOT have their food withheld before surgery.  The owner should bring thier pets food with them the day of surgery.

Our Recommendations:

Presugical Bloodwork:  Dunckel Veterinary Hospital recommends bloodwork once a year for a general health screening and every 6 months for those pets over 7 years old.  This blood test checks your pets liver, glucose and kidney functions before they undergo surgery to make sure they are able to process the anethesia through their organs. 

Laser surgery:  Laser surgery can be performed with any of our surgical procedures.  By using laser it seals the nerve endings and cauterizes as it cuts therefore, causing less bleeding and less swelling at the incision site. 

Pain Medication:  We offer several options of pain medications including injections and oral pain medications.
